Four New Parks Opening in 2019!
/Spring has sprung has in the Northern hemisphere and the time for taking outdoor adventures has arrived! GreenWorks is pleased to share a sneak peek at some of the parks we’ve designed that are opening this year. Whether you’re looking for an urban park close to home or a destination park in the PNW, these one-of-a-kind recreation areas will keep your whole family busy and happy this spring and summer.
Couch Park
Located in the Historic Alphabet District in NW Portland, Couch Park offers Portland’s first inclusive playground on the west side. The play area, generously shaded by a dense canopy of trees, is designed for kids of all ages and abilities and incorporates natural elements and factory built play equipment. The once-bumpy-plaza has now been transformed into a beautifully paved ADA-accessible space that mimics the patterns of the historic pavers. The park also incorporates vegetated stormwater planters that, provide plenty of places to sit and adds a healthy splash of color to this city park!
Windjammer Waterfront Park
With a nautical-themed nature play splash pad (complete with a pirate ship and water cannons!), trail network, and architecturally-stunning public kitchens and bathrooms, this 28.5 acre waterfront park in Oak Harbor, Washington will make for a perfect weekend getaway this summer.
Washougal Waterfront Park Nature Play Area
Ever been to a waterfront park with a giant Sasquatch sculpture named Eegah? Yeah, we didn’t think so. If that wasn’t cool enough, the space also includes an embankment slide, musical instruments, log climbers, and a discovery trail that winds through the forest.

Reed’s Crossing Greenway
Set in the middle of Reed’s Crossing—a 460-acre community located in South Hillsboro opening this spring—the Greenway links both the community internally and adjacent neighborhoods by the multimodal trail network traversing the site. In addition to providing connection, the Greenway also supports riparian habitat with stormwater ponds and wetlands, making it a great place to observe wildlife and nature within a suburban environment. A special STEM/STEAM education area called Discovery Park is incorporated into the Greenway and offers stations for discovery and learning. Stations include Water Discovery, Nurse Log Habitat, Climb and Find, Pollinator Habitat, and the Oak Savannah. The park even includes an outdoor classroom and a pavilion for educators and parents to gather and teach children within and among the habitat.
